& Content Warnings
These content warnings pertain to City of Vicious Night. I’m so grateful to everyone who loved the first book and demanded a sequel. I’d always envisioned these characters’ stories as two books, and here it is—a conclusion to a duology, but just open-ended enough for future adventures!
Writing this book felt like coming home. Like the first book, it gets a little dark, but it’s balanced with plenty of breakneck action and snark and kissing. I hope you’re ready for party-crashing, deadly sapphics, cutthroat underworld politics, creepy cyberpunk brain-tech, and ride-or-die queer found family.
That said, there’s a few content warnings I think readers should be aware of. You can expect a similar level of tough content as the first book, including:
Characters engage in fights involving guns, blades, and fists. They experience injuries, including bruises and lacerations. Choking happens in some altercations.
A character struggles with a fictional condition involving neural deterioration and bleeding.
There is an on-page sex scene (not graphic or explicit).
Characters use strong language including “fuck” and “shit.”
A character misuses alcohol during emotionally trying times.
A character is subjected to simulated deaths involving blood, injury, and fungus.
A character experiences cybernetic implants causing them pain.
Two characters have subtle thoughts of death/passing away when their circumstances are dire.
During a tense negotiation, a character threatens suicide by holding a gun to their head.also depicted.
Conditions on Requiem are given more depth than the first book, and there are references to violence, poverty, and prostitution.
A corpse is eaten by a shark.
Needles, sedatives, and vomiting are also depicted.
